A Wild and Crazy Ride Beckons

lauren salazarPucker up: New Belgium is unleashing its wood cellar of rare wild ales during two sour beer blending workshops in the Tap Room of The Black Squirrel on Thursday, August 15th, starting at 6 p.m. The second session ensues at 9. Lauren Salazar (pictured left), New Belgium’s sensory specialist regarded as a leading expert on wild ales, will show guests how to embrace the funk and blend a perfectly balanced sour beer.  Tickets are $55 a person.
Price of admission includes the following:  Samples of five rare wild ales from New Belgium’s wood cellar and a stainless-steel tasting container;  New Belgium’s 2013 La Folie and a food pairing;  a Salazar-led presentation that explains the history of New Belgium’s sour beer program; and a workshop where everyone gets a chance to make a blended sour beer from four of New Belgium’s single-barrel bases. A warning is necessary. Tickets are precious. Salazar is orchestrating only five of these events this year: in Portland, Ore., San Diego, Chicago, Asheville, N.C., and Washington, D.C. Because of the limited number of available seats, tickets are non-refundable.
