It is local but hardly sustainable, the buzz-worthy, bedlam-inducing launch of the District-based Atlas Brew Works at both the Black Squirrel and Libertine restaurants on Sept. 8, a Sunday, which just so happens to be Adams Morgan Day and the first NFL Sunday of the season. The frenzy starts at 11 a.m. Atlas Brew Works plans to unveil the District Common, a California Common-style beverage coming in at 5.1 percent, and Rowdy, a 6.2 percent rye beer. Atlas also will debut with NSFW, an acronym befitting a type of beer that will be revealed on launch day. Justin Cox, founder and CEO of the fourth production brewery in the city, is elated to be able to showcase his products on such a high-profile day. “We are really excited to be associated with two staples of the craft beer community on Adams Morgan Day,” Cox says. “The growth of the festival is amazing each year, and we look forward to introducing Atlas Brew Works to the community.” Atlas beer, football and a slew of indie bands belting out tunes on 18th Street . . . let’s rock.
