First in Flight, first in the ACC and last in the NBA, North Carolina is associated with a number of things, not the least of which is its strong line-up of microbreweries. In kicking off the festivities of the Craft Brewers Conference, six breweries from the Tar Heel State will be the featured guests of the Black Squirrel on Tuesday (March 26). They are as follows: Mother Earth, Aviator, Duck Rabbit, Highland, Big Boss and Foothills, and they stretch from the lowlands of Kinston in the east to the Smoky Mountains in Asheville in the west. The suds bonanza, by label: Aviator: High Voltage Pale Ale, Saison de Aviator and Hop Rod Red; Mother Earth: Silent Night, Dark Cloud, Windowpane, Munich Dunkle and Endless River; Duck Rabbit: Baltic Porter; Foothills: Sexual Chocolate, Seeing Double and Jade; Highland: Devil’s Britches and Gaelic Ale; and Big Boss: Saucy Pants, Big Operator and High Roller. Brewers from each label will be in attendance, starting at 7 p.m. Chef Gene Sohn will add his creative touch to Carolina-style barbeque to complement the liquid treasure.
